Clear old .ics calendar invites out of Downloads
Omaculate offers .ics calendar invites that have been in Downloads for more than 7 days for the Trash. Once an invite is in your calendar, the file has done its job.
Why it helps
Opening an .ics adds the event to Calendar, but the file stays behind. They are tiny, but dozens of "invite (3).ics" files make Downloads harder to read.
What it matches
- Calendar files (.ics)
- Added more than 7 days ago
What it leaves alone
- Invites from the last week, which you may not have opened yet
- The events in your calendar: trashing the file doesn't touch them
- Trash rows always ask first, even when the recipe is set to Just handle it.
A calendar invite in Downloads, older than 7 days, goes to the Trash.
Set it up in Omaculate
- Open Omaculate from the menu bar and go to Recipes.
- Under Suggested, choose Old calendar invites. It's ready to save, on Downloads.
- Look over the files it would touch, then press Save.
- Press Tidy now, check the list, and approve it.
Change anything by tapping its words, for example: 30 days instead of 7.
Or by hand: find .ics files
- In Downloads, press ⌘F and search for ".ics".
- Select the old ones and press ⌘⌫.
Questions
Does deleting an .ics file remove the event from my calendar?
No. Once you have added it, the event lives in Calendar. The .ics file is only the invitation it came in.
