For developers
For developers: old .dmg installers and unzipped archives cleared
Omaculate offers installers older than 30 days, archives already unzipped beside their folder, and byte-for-byte duplicate downloads for the Trash, and lists every one for your approval before it moves.
Installers you ran once
Every tool, SDK and beta leaves a .dmg or .pkg behind, and some take gigabytes.
Archive and folder side by side
Release tarballs and zips stay next to the folders you unpacked them into.
The same file twice
Click a release link twice and the browser keeps both, as "name (1)".
Recipes that help
Start with these.
Trash old app installers
An installer in Downloads, older than 30 days, goes to the Trash.
Trash zips already unzipped
A zip in Downloads that's already unzipped goes to the Trash.
Trash duplicate downloads
Anything in Downloads that's an exact copy of a file beside it goes to the Trash.
Archive old downloads
Anything in Downloads, older than 30 days, is moved to Downloads/Archive.
Setting it up
- Let Oma into Downloads.
- Add the three Clean up recipes: old app installers, zips already unzipped, duplicate downloads.
- Adjust the age on the installer recipe if 30 days is too long or too short.
- Approve the first list. Trash rows always ask, even later when a recipe runs by itself.
Good to know
- Turn a condition around to keep one installer you reinstall often, like "isn't named Xcode*".
- Drop a file on the menu bar panel to see what Oma would do with it before you add a recipe.
Questions
Does Omaculate need Full Disk Access?
No. It is sandboxed and only works in folders you let it into. Downloads is let in without a prompt.
Does it handle .tar.gz as well as .zip?
Yes. "Trash zips already unzipped" matches .zip, .tar, .tar.gz and similar archives when their unpacked folder is beside them.
Let Oma have a look at your Downloads.
Free for one folder. Everything free for 3 days, then Grand Oma is $14.99, once.
