Move photos and videos out of Downloads into one folder

Omaculate moves every image and video in Downloads, including AirDropped HEIC photos and MOV clips, into a Photos and Videos folder.

Why it helps

AirDrop saves straight to Downloads, so family photos end up between bank PDFs and installers.

What it matches

  • Images: HEIC, JPG, PNG, GIF, RAW and others
  • Videos: MOV, MP4 and others

What it leaves alone

  • Screenshots on the Desktop (a separate recipe)
  • Audio files
  • Photos still arriving over AirDrop
In the recipe editor

An image or video in Downloads is moved to Downloads/Photos and Videos.

Set it up in Omaculate

  1. Open Omaculate from the menu bar and go to Recipes.
  2. Under Suggested, choose Photos and videos. It's ready to save, on Downloads.
  3. Look over the files it would touch, then press Save.
  4. Press Tidy now, check the list, and approve it.

Change anything by tapping its words, for example: move them into Pictures instead (no extra permission needed); rAW photos apart from the rest; a folder per month.

Or by hand: sort Downloads by kind in Finder

  1. Open Downloads and choose View › Use Groups, then View › Group By › Kind.
  2. Select the Images and Movies groups, and drag them into a new folder.
