For students

A tidy Mac for students: screenshots, class PDFs and old zips sorted

Omaculate moves screenshots off your Desktop, gathers class PDFs and documents into one folder, and offers zips you have already unzipped for the Trash, after showing you the list first.

A Desktop full of screenshots

Slides, whiteboards and chat snippets all land on the Desktop as "Screenshot 2026-…" until you cannot see your own folders.

Course files with the same names

Every module hands out "lecture.pdf" and "assignment (1).pdf", so Downloads fills with near-identical names.

Zips that stay after opening

Coursework and starter files arrive zipped. After you open them, the zip and the folder both stay.

Setting it up

  1. Open Omaculate and let Oma into Downloads (no permission prompt needed).
  2. Look at what she suggests from a scan of the folder, and switch off anything you would rather keep as it is.
  3. Approve the first list, and check History if you want anything back.
  4. Press Tidy now whenever Downloads fills up again, or let Grand Oma run it every evening.

Good to know

  • Put "Gather PDFs and documents" below more specific recipes, so it only catches what is left.
  • Add a folder per month to the screenshots recipe to keep each term apart.

Questions

Does the free version work for a student?

Yes. It tidies one folder, such as Downloads, whenever you press Tidy now, and it always asks first.

Can Oma tidy the Desktop and Downloads at the same time?

With Grand Oma, yes: she looks after any number of folders. The free version looks after one.

Let Oma have a look at your Downloads.

Free for one folder. Everything free for 3 days, then Grand Oma is $14.99, once.
