Calendar invite

What is an .ics file, and can you delete it after adding the event?

An .ics file is a calendar event in a standard format; once you’ve added it to Calendar, the file can go to the Trash and the event stays.

Safe to trash

Safe to trash once the event is in your calendar. Trashing the file doesn’t remove the event.

What it is

ICS (iCalendar) is the format calendars use to share events. Booking confirmations, webinars and "Add to calendar" links hand you an .ics file. Opening it on a Mac adds the event to Calendar.

Where it comes from

Downloads, from "Add to calendar" links and email attachments.
